I think that it was the fact that I was moving away from a few years of intensive Pink Floyd that turned me off to them before. When 10K Hz Legend et al were coming out, my idea of electronic music was kinetic like μ-Ziq or Plaid or Aphex Twin- or at least as mesmerizing and dark as Massive Attack. Their early records just sounded like generic Pink Floyd to me. Love 2 sounds like '70s-'80s Krautrock. You can put that Klaus Dinger beat behind pretty much anything and I'll probably give it the thumbs up, but this record has, in addition to that, pacing, tension, lyrics, and a very up-front sort of production that leaves their atmospheric tendencies behind. The new record really drives.
Did you like the new Air?

Aw, c'mon, Air has been putting out good material for at least ten years now. You were just hardened against them from the get-go, I guess.

Who knew I'd one day not only like an Air record, but I'd count it among the best of the year? All previous cake punches remain well deserved, however.
