What a year. My apartment burned down, I got into a PhD program, I got engaged, I spent the summer sweltering in the Midwest, I got married, I drove across the entire country with my wife, and I just finished my first quarter as a doctoral candidate. Did I listen to any music? Let’s perform [...]  I’ve been marinating in my own musky grown-up smells with the ample help of 90 degree 100% humidity weather all summer as I work on reacquiring my foreign language skills. My bar slouch is turning into a desk slouch. That’s where I’ve been. I have managed to listen to just a very few things since [...] In the midst of all that music coming out that’s demanding an equal amount of your diminishing time and attention (that amount is 100%, if you weren’t aware) there are still gems…. In no particular order, the records I liked the most this year are: Private Lives – Private Life (can still be bought as part of the Soul Jazz Records singles compilation.) |
